The veteran actress Sharmila Tagore made her debut on the ramp on Sunday. On the 3rd day of Delhi Couture Week (DCW) Sharmila Tagore wore a gorgeous heavily embroidered gold and white ghagra with a potli (bag) in her hand designed by designer duo Ashima and Leena.
"I was initially skeptical walking the ramp because I am more of a sari person and carrying a ghagra was bit uncomfortable. However the designers had to convince me a lot to wear the outfit and suggested to experiment with my looks. Also I am glad I didn't trip and fall," said Sharmila Tagore.
The designer duo named their collection ‘Adaa’ which was a mix of ghagras, drapes over churidaars, dupattas, lehangas and saris. The colors varied from gold, muted bright colors, pinks, peachy roses, soft blues, soothing greens, red and beige on brocade chiffon and nets.
When asked about the decision to have Sharmila Tagore as the shop stopper Leena said, "She is the epitome of our designs and we can't think of any other person who could carry the same grace as her.”
The designer duo tried to bring back the old Indian culture and charm as they used heavy jewelry like neckpieces, ear-rings, mang-tikas and ankle rings that added an elegance of their designs.
They selected the music to suit the mood as they played "Sajdaa", "Lal More" and other Sufi songs in the background. The show was opened with Kathak dancers performing live to set the mood for the show.
"Our country is full of tradition and heritage and it's great to see the designers coming up with themes which symbolize the rich Indian culture”, said a very graceful Sharmila Tagore.
