The legend Shammi Kapoor passes away

The legendary actor Shammi Kapoor passed away in the early hours of 5:15 in the morning. The actor who had been struggling with chronic renal failure had been on dialysis for years. On Saturday he was rushed to hospital where he was admitted in ICU. But in early hours of Sunday morning he died of Kidney failure. He was 79.

“He was a very happy and lively person. He was unwell for sometime. He was on dialysis. He died of kidney failure,” said Aditya Raj Kapoor, son of Shammi Kapoor.

Shammi Kapoor is one of the most beloved stars in the film industry. He has delivered many classic movies like ‘Junglee’, Kashmir Ki Kali', Teesri Manzil, Professor, Evening in Paris, Dil De Ke Dekho' Tum Sa Nahi Dekha and Brahmachari etc.

He was known for his unique flamboyant rock 'n' roll dancing which earned him the name of ‘Elvis Presley ofIndia’. He was also nicknamed ‘Junglee’ and gained an image of ‘Yahoo hippie’ after his movie ‘Junglee’.

Shammi Kapoor was born on 21 October 1931 to the legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni Mehra. He was the middle son with Raj Kapoor being the eldest and Shashi Kapoor the youngest. The three brothers carved their own niche and delivered few of the best Bollywood movies ever made.

Amitabh Bachchan was the first person to break the news on Twitter.

The funeral will be taking place tomorrow.

“The funeral will take place tomorrow at around 9 am at the Ban Ganga funeral ground,” said Aditya.

Shammi Kapoor was a computer fanatic and he was one of the first Bollywood celebrities to own a website and join twitter.

Shammi Kapoor’s last movie ‘Rockstar’ is yet to be released in which he has acted along side his grandson Ranbir Kapoor.

Shammi Kapoor will also be remembered for his charisma and his rock ‘n’ roll dancing style. He will be missed.
