Farhan Akhtar until now has neither acted nor directed a movie outside his production house. But now the things are set to change as he will be seen in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's next movie, titled ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’.
‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ is a biopic on the ace Indian athlete Milkha Singh. The story will depict the life of Milkha from his childhood days in Pakistan to his rise to fame.
The actor Akshay Kumar was in contention for the role as Milkha himself thought that Akshay Kumar was the best option.
"I strongly feel that my role should be played by Akshay Kumar. Being a Punjabda puttar, he has the right physique and also acts well,” Milkha had said.
But things with Akshay Kumar never really took off and rumors started that Abhishek Bachchan would be playing the lead. But even that turned to be nothing more than rumors as its now Farhan Akhtar who will be playing the role.
"Farhan is an extremely fit guy. He likes to do roles that challenge his acting skills to the maximum. To get into the character of Milkha Singh is not going to be easy either”, said a source.
The idea for the movie came to the director in 2009 after he completed his movie ‘Delhi 6’. The director had even toyed with the idea of making the movie in more than one language.
“Perhaps the spoken language will be one, and that would be what Milkha speaks in real life, Punjabi, Hindi or English. But I'd like to make the film for a global audience”, he had said back then.
The story of the movie will be penned by Prasoon Joshi. The movie is set to go on floors in next year.
While Farhan Akhtar remained unavailable for comments, Rakeysh Mehra neither confirmed nor denied the reports as he just stated, “I am still finalizing the casting of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.”
