The actor Hrithik Roshan who plays the lead role in upcoming movie ‘Agneepath’ said that his movie wasn’t a remake of the yester year classic by the same name.

He also added that he didn’t favor remakes and the reason he accepted the movie was because it was very different from the original as it was set in ‘different world’ altogether.

“I am full of gratitude to be part of this project. I was never interested in doing remakes and I don't think I will ever do. When Karan Malhotra came to Spain to narrate the script, in a matter of ten minutes, he made me forget about my pre-conceived notions, all symbolic visuals that I had about the original film... everything vanished and everything seemed new. I reacted to it as a brand new script," Hrithik told reporters during the launch of the movie trailer.

He also admitted that he was skeptical at first but after listening to Karan Malhotra’s narration he was sure it was the right move.

"When I was first approached by Karan I was like I should not go down that route at all. He has a different way of narrating the story. He makes those background sounds while narrating...there was audio, visual. Half way through the narration I felt I am an actor and I want to go by instincts, whatever my mind says...I am a slave of my instincts. He showed me the completely new world. It is not a remake...it is a different world," he said.

Nonetheless, Hrithik Roshan will be playing the character Vijay Deenanath Chauhan which was made iconic by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. The role had also garnered Amitabh Bachchan a National Award.

Hrithik though denied taking inspiration or reference from the original ‘Vijay’.

"I didn't have any reference point. I only had what Karan (Malhotra) had written in the script and it was absolutely a new space, which was a good thing, as I didn't want to have a reference point”, he said.

Though comparisons are bound to take place, Hrithik Roshan said that there was no competition to out do Big B of Bollywood.

"If the competition had been in my mind then I would have definitely failed. For me it's just another character," said Hrithik.

The film is being directed by debutant director Karan Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar who has said that the movie was a tribute to his father Yash Johar.

The movie features Priyanka Chopra as Hrithik’s love interest. Sanjay Dutt plays the main Villain role while Rishi Kapoor plays a pivotal negative character.

The movie will release on January 13th 2012.
