The acclaimed Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh passed away at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai Today. The maestro was admitted in hospital on September 23rd after he suffered from brain hemorrhage. He was operated immediately but was still in critical condition. Since then he was kept in Intensive Care Unit.
"Jagjit Singh passed away at 8.10 am after having a terrible hemorrhage," Dr Sudhir Nandgaonkar, hospital spokesperson, told PTI.
Jagjit Singh along with his wife Chitra Singh gained immense popularity in 70’s and 80’s with their Ghazals.
He was given Padma Bhushan award for his contribution to music. He is popularly called as "The Ghazal King".
Few of his Ghazals like ‘Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho’, ‘Hoshwalo Ko Khabar’, ‘Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar’, ‘Tum Ko Dekha To Yeh Khayal Aaya’ etc are considered as immortal songs.
