Shah Rukh Khan co-owns Mumbai franchise of i1 Super Series

Shah Rukh Khan and Jai Mehta, who co-own KKR franchise, are now the Mumbai franchise owners for the all-new Motorsport racing league i1 Super Series.

"We are today announcing the first team for the i1 Super Series which will be owned by Shah Rukh Khan and Jai Mehta, who together own KKR," Machdar Motosports CEO Darshan M said to PTI.

Shah Rukh Khan is thrilled with the new development and is certain of its success.

“The i1 Super Series is a very interesting concept as it gets racing drivers from across the globe to partner with young Indian talent. After the inaugural Indian GP it is clear that motorsports is hugely popular inIndiaand I strongly believe that this series will be a success with its one-of-a-kind concept. The concept is similar to the IPL and I am confident that in the years to come this can become one of the biggest motorsport events in the world,” he said.

The Super Series will have a total of 9 teams representing 9 cities acrossIndia. Each team will have one Indian and one international racer.

Darshan said that the Machdar Motorsports will announce other teams and owners mostly probably for Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore, mostly by next week.

The event will start in January 2012.
