Imtiaz Ali’s movie ‘Rockstar’ is one of the most awaited movies of the year. It’s been said that Imtiaz Ali’s craftsmanship is very much evident in this magical musical drama.
Ranbir Kapoor, who plays the lead role of a Rockstar named Jordon, said that it was challenging to get into the character but the effort was totally worth it.
"Of course yes, it was. And to think of it, I may just not have been able to do the film at all if Imtiaz would have proceeded with the original set up few years ago. As you must be aware, he was supposed to make the film with some other actor four years ago and I was nowhere in the picture. I was preparing for ‘Saawariya (2007)’ when word spread about him making ‘Rockstar’. Back then too I used to feel that this was one genre that I really wanted to be a part of,” said Ranbir Kapoor to a website.
Earlier Imtiaz Ali had planned to do ‘Rockstar’ with John Abraham but the project failed to take off after the announcement and Imtiaz Ali went ahead and made ‘Love Aaj Kal’. But the narrative of the movie was so intriguing to Imtiaz Ali that he just couldn’t ignore it. So, when he decided to revive the project with few changes in the script Ranbir Kapoor was his obvious choice for lead role.
"It is my good fortune that in ‘Rockstar’, I got the role of a lifetime," said Ranbir Kapoor.
As ‘Rockstar’ is the journey of guy an ordinary guy who goes on to become a very popular Rockstar, the music of the movie plays a crucial role in it. Imtiaz Ali signed in none other than Academy Award wining AR Rahman to score the music for the movie.
"Moreover with Rahman in the project, it was obvious that I wasn't letting ‘Rockstar’ go away anywhere. This was indeed a film that stretched me to some good limits and with the kind of response that has come in, it has only made the wait worth it,” Ranbir Kapoor concluded.
