All the prejudice and apprehensions that people had regarding the movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ has vanished and has been replaced by awe and admiration. People, who at first thought Vidya Balan’s portrayal of a sensual 80’s dancer was vulgar, are now showering the actress with praises and raving about her performance as Silk.
“I was hoping that people will connect with Silk and love the film, but I don't know what I was expecting. This is definitely beyond anything I could have hoped for. I feel so humbled by all the love, the praise, and appreciation, the success at the box office, it is unbelievable,” said the actress in a recent interview with a daily.
Even though the movie has 3 male leads in Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor its Vidya Balan who is being called as the real ‘hero’ of the film.
“According to me, (writer) Rajat Arora and (director) Milan Luthria are the true heroes of the film. I think filmmaking is a team effort so while I am humbled and accept the compliment graciously, I still think that I can't take it as an individual. I think all of us have put in as much effort,” said the actress when asked who the real ‘hero’ was according to her.
This is the third time in a row (first two being ‘Ishqiya’ and ‘No One Killed Jessica’) that the actress has managed to captivate the audience with her strong performance in the movie. But the modest actress gives credit to her directors.
“I feel very blessed that I have got some good films and directors who brought out the best in me. The credit for that goes to them. Then you are backed by producers like Ekta, who makes sure the world and its father see the film,” she said.
“I am very happy with the films I have got, especially ‘Dirty Picture’, which is a huge landmark for me. Yes, I have got critical and commercial success in the past, too, and this is something else, it is different,” she added.
