I am not the next big thing: Ranveer Singh

With his first movie ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ itself Ranveer Singh earned himself the title of ‘the next big thing in Bollywood’. Even his second movie ‘Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl’ was quite successful at the box office.

But Ranveer Singh himself doesn’t think that he is ‘the next best thing’.

“People started calling me the next big thing after ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ but I don't take such things seriously. By no means am I the next big thing and I don't allow such notions to get into my head. It is the end of an actor if he starts believing himself to be big. I have a long way to go. Sky is the limit,” Ranveer Singh said to PTI.

In his two movies itself Ranveer Singh managed to show off the versatility that he has to offer as an actor. The actor who made a very convincing debut as a Haryanvi boy Bittoo in his debut movie shattered that image of his by playing suave and sexy Ricky Bahl in his next movie.

“I want to have a wide range and frankly for me the most important thing was to break the image of Bittoo Sharma. A year ago when I had spoken on stage at an awards show, Abhinav Kashyap (Dabangg director) said to me that he was surprised I could speak in English. He said that Bittoo Sharma had become such a cult character that despite being a filmmaker himself, he was forced to believe that I was playing my real self onscreen,” he said.

Ranveer Singh though humbled by the compliments he received for his portrayal of Bittoo doesn’t want to stick to the winning formula.

“Compliments does boost your ego, but is also a scary situation to be in as you don't want to shy away from doing anything different. I have just started my career and can't afford to stick to the winning formula,” he said.

The actor is currently working on his third movie ‘Lootera’ with Sonakshi Sinha said that he likes doing one movie at a time.

“I try to do things step by step and now that I am doing ‘Lootera’, my second film would have to wait. I do one film at a time and then move on to the next. If I had to follow a different model, I could have already blocked my date diary for next six years and feel content. However, I want to have that space available in my calendar so that tomorrow if 2-3 good films suddenly come up, I can accommodate accordingly instead of worrying about my earlier commitments,” he concluded.
