‘Munna Bhai Ki Aatma Katha’, the third installment in the Munna Bhai franchise after ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, is probably been the most awaited movie for years.
The director Rajkumar Hirani said that the delay was mainly due to the fact that they want the third movie to be stronger than the first two.
“We have always wanted to make the third film but it is getting delayed because it shouldn't look like we are making it only to encash it,” he said to a daily.
“We want the third to be better than the previous two. So, it is getting delayed because script-wise it still needs to be strong...but we will definitely make the third film,” he added.
Previously the movie was titled ‘Munnabhai Chale America’ and few promotional pictures were also released. But the movie never happened. Recently, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the producer of first two movies, had confirmed that there will be 3rd Munnabhai movie and it will be called ‘Munna Bhai Ki Aatma Katha’.
It was also rumored that Aamir Khan would be replacing Sanjay Dutt as Munnabhai and Sharma Joshi would replace Arshad Warsi as Circuit.
But the director dismissed the rumors.
“Sanju is Munnabhai; I can't imagine anybody else as Munnabhai. Sanju and Arshad as Munna, Circuit,” he said.
Actor Sanjay Dutt said that the role of Munnabhai had changed his life and he would be playing Munnabhai until he was 80.
“From my career, my daily life to my image, everything has changed because of 'Munna Bhai', it's so important,” he said.
“It is a memorable film, a memorable role. Actors very rarely get a chance to do such a role and I think I am lucky,” he added.
