Directors Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee are one of those of those very few filmmakers of India who have received critical acclaim not just in India but worldwide. Their movie’s might not be the kind of movies that Bollywood is generally associated with but none doubt their talent when it comes to making good and unconventional films.

Director Dibakar Banerjee’s ‘Shanghai’ is all set to release this Friday and according to Kalki Koechlin, who is the female lead of the movie, her director husband Anurag Kashyap is jealous of Dibakar Banerjee’s talent.

“Anurag has seen ‘Shanghai’. He is little jealous of Dibakar Banerjee for having made a film like this,” said the actress to IANS.

The actress is currently in Singapore for the world premier of ‘Shanghai’ at ongoing International Indian Film Academy awards. The actress is accompanied by her ‘Shanghai’ co-star Abhay Deol and her director Dibakar Banerjee.

When questioned about the absence of her husband at the event she said, “He (Kashyap) doesn't like to attend award functions. Also he is filming in Mumbai, that's why he couldn't come. But he supports me for the film.”

The actress has carved a niche for herself in Bollywood by acting in non-convectional films that have gone on to become hits at the box-office. Her only commercial Hindi movie is ‘Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara’.

“I really don't know what is conventional or unconventional roles. I only do what I believe in and I know how to do for sure,” she said.

The movie landed into trouble when a public suit was filed against the movie for the song ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. But the court dismissed the case stating that there wasn’t anything offensive in the song, whose thought is echoed by Kalki Koechlin.

“I don't think this film is trying to offend anyone, it's just observing the reality we live in,” she concluded.

Along with her and Abhay the movie also stars Emraan Hashmi. ‘Shanghai’ will release this Friday, June 8.
