Madhur Bhandarkar’s eagerly awaited movie ‘Heroine’ tells the story of an actress Mahi Gill and the up’s and down’s she faces in her life both personally and professionally.
The buzz is that Mahi Gill’s character has been inspired by various incidents from the lives of actresses in the Hindi film industry.
Kareena Kapoor, who plays Mahi Gill in the movie, said that the movie 80 percent reality and just 20 percent fiction.
“I think the film is 80 percent based on reality. I have been watching it while dubbing for the film and I am shocked! After viewing this film, people will know what happens in the personal life of actresses,” said Kareena Kapoor to PTI.
Kareena Kapoor was always Madhur Bhandarkar’s initial choice for the movie but when the actress refused to do the movie, the director approached Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Just after 10 days of shooting Aishwarya Rai Bachchan revealed that she was pregnant. Madhur Bhandarkar decided to drop Aishwarya from the project and reproached Kareena Kapoor with the movie and agreed to Kareena Kapoor’s terms.
“I am glad the film finally came to me as I was keen on working with Madhur since watching ‘Chandni Bar‘. I am happy I’ve worked with him in his best film,” she said.
Given that Vidya Balan played a similar role in ‘The Dirty Picture’, the comparisons between both the actresses are bound to happen.
“I didn’t have any misgiving, nor am I wary of any comparisons. I have played the role my way, no one has played such a role before,” she said.
The movie underwent censor formalities recently and received an ‘A’ certificate due to few bold scenes. This might pose a problem to movie’s satellite rights like the movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ encountered. ‘The Dirty Picture’ was only allowed to be shown on TV after the movie underwent several cuts.
“I think it is wrong to discriminate between films on the basis of smoking or bold scenes and barring them from being telecast on TV. There are many other channels people can turn to which show such scenes,” she concluded.
