Actress Ileana D’Cruz, who is pretty popular down South, is all set to make her debut in Bollywood with Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi’. But the actress isn’t the solo female lead in the movie and shares screen space with Priyanka Chopra.
But Ileana isn’t insecure to share screen space with the likes of Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra and said that she has complete faith in her director Anurag Basu.
“I did this film because I have complete faith in Anurag (Basu, director) and the way in which he represents his characters. If I was insecure about my role, I wouldn’t have done it. I’m confident of making a mark. I was nervous initially, as it is very different from the films I’ve done in the past,” said Ileana to HT during an interview.
Actress Ileana is known for her glamorous roles down South but actress wants to follow to different path in Bollywood and concentrate more on acting oriented roles.
“Being a glam girl in Hindi films is not my goal. I want acting-oriented roles. I want people to take me seriously as an actor. Skin show is overrated anyway, and the same goes for intimate scenes. They might get attention, but not for the right reasons,” she said.
Ranbir Kapoor has a history of being linked with his co-stars. When asked if she was apprehensive of a link up between her and Ranbir she said, “Absolutely not. Men don’t scare me. I have an intimidating dad, so nothing comes close to him."
But during this movie he was neither linked with Priyanka Chopra nor Ileana.
“Link-ups may keep you in the news, but they can work against you too. I’m glad I haven’t been linked to Ranbir. He is a nice person and a brilliant co-star. I was blown away while watching him perform,” she added.
The kiss between her and Ranbir Kapoor in the movie has become talk of town but Ileana doesn’t understand what the fuss is all about.
“I can’t comment as it wasn’t really a proper kiss. People keep asking me about it! But my focus was more on the emotion, for which it was needed,” she concluded.
In the movie Ranbir Kapoor plays a character of deaf and dumb boy Murphy, who is called ‘Barfi’ by all his friends. Even though Barfi is deaf and dumb he is quite a charmer and a prankster. He seems to always have a prank up his sleeve.
Priyanka Chopra plays an autistic girl Jhilmil, whom Ranbir Kapoor described as a ‘beautiful puppy dog’.
Ileana plays Ranbir Kapoor’s instructor, Shruti, who loves Murphy but marries another guy because her parents object to the relationship.
The movie is basically about Murphy’s bitter-sweet relationship with Shruti (Ileana) and Jhilmil (Priyanka) and the chain of events that turns his life upside down.
‘Barfi’ is all set to release on September 14th.
