By now everyone knows that the reason Akshay Kumar chose not to promote his movie ‘Joker’ and disassociate himself from the movie, even though he co-produced it, is because he wasn’t satisfied with the movie the shaped up and had fallout with director Shirish Kunder.
Many believe that the fact of the movie at the box-office was affected by Akshay Kumar’s absence from all promotional activity. Akshay Kumar, who remained mum during the whole controversy, has finally spoken out and said that the movie would have worked regardless him promoting it or not if the content of the movie was worth watching.
“I think the hero's presence during promotions makes a difference only to the Friday opening. And perhaps, a part of Saturday. But after that, it's the word of mouth that counts,” said Akshay Kumar to a daily.
“After a film releases, its success no longer stays in the hands of the actors or the makers. Whether you put 30, 25 or 5 days into the promotional activities, the audience takes the film's fate out of your hands. I remember vividly, not so long ago, I had gone all out for the promotions of a film. I spent time away from family, not to mention losing sleep and putting my other schedules on hold. But the audience had already made up their mind,” he added.
The actor justified his actions and said that this time he let the movie do the talking.
“This time, I let the film speak for itself, that's all. I believe if it was destined to be a blockbuster, it would have been. Regardless of my actions,” he said.
But Akshay Kumar is leaving no stone unturned for his next production venture ‘Oh My God’.
“I didn't hear any script. I saw the play and enjoyed it. And also learnt a lesson. I was always a God fearing man. After watching the play, I became a God loving man. I stopped believing in pay and pray. Now I can sit anywhere and pray. That way, I get more time with God,” he said.
‘Oh My God’, starring Paresh Rawal, is based on Paresh Rawal’s Gujarati play ‘Kanji Virrudh Kanji’, that was later made into Hindi as ‘Krishna Vs Kanhaiya’.
The movie ‘Oh My God’ is co-produced by Ashvini Yardi, Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. Actress Sonakshi Sinha and choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva feature in the song ‘Go Go Govinda’, which is already a hit among the masses.
Akshay Kumar plays role of Lord Krishna in the movie.
