In many Bollywood movies heroines just act as an eye candy, while their male counterparts dominate the movie. But of late there has been a revolution of sorts and movies with strong female leads are being made and appreciated by the audience.
In the movie ‘Aiyyaa’ Rani Mukerji has a substantial role but the actress feels that it would be wrong to call the movie woman-centric.
“I would call it a romantic film, and I wouldn't categorize this as a woman-centric story,” said Rani Mukerji to IANS.
‘Aiyyaa’ is about a Marathi girl, Meenakshi Deshpande (Rani), whose parents are looking for a suitable groom for her. She falls in love with a Tamil boy, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is making his Bollywood debut with the movie.
The movie is directed by Sachin Kundalkar and produced by Anurag Kashyap.
The movie is all set to release on October 12.
Post ‘Aiyyaa’ Rani Mukerji will be seen in one of most eagerly anticipated movies of the year ‘Talaash’.
“I am doing ‘Talaash’ and I am very happy talking about films that I do. There is no point talking about films that I rejected or I regret doing,” she concluded.
‘Talaash’ is directed by Reema Kagti and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji in lead roles.
The movie will release on November 30.
