Actress Anushka Sharma, who made her Bollywood debut in 2008 with ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’, opposite Shah Rukh Khan, has craved a niche for herself with good performances in movies like ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, in which her acting skills were appreciated and she won an IIFA award, ‘Patiala House’ and more recently ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.
The actress, who will next be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s movie ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’, said that out of all character playing Bijlee was difficult as she dint relate to the actor.
“This is the first time I dealt with something which I just could not relate to. When I was growing up I was not at all spoilt. There was no scope for throwing tantrums in my house. Plus, she (Bijlee) is not a stereotypical spoilt brat. I could not look at my personal references for this. I had to be like someone else totally,” said Anushka Sharma to PTI.
Along with Anushka Sharma, the movie also stars Imran Khan and veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor in lead roles.
Anushka Sharma, who is working with Pankaj Kapoor, for the first time said that she was intimidated by him.
“Pankaj Kapur is one of the best actors one has ever seen because he has been a theatre actor. He has learnt to blank out people and the crowd and focus. That is one of the strengths an actor must possess," she said.
“I was intimidated by him. He doesn't talk much so you are always on tenterhooks around him. But it is such a pleasure seeing him act. He doesn't drink and he has played an alcoholic," she added.
‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ is a drama comedy set in a rustic village of Haryana. The movie is about Harry Mandola (Pankaj Kapur), a wealthy industrialist who loves his drink, his daughter Bijlee (Anushka Sharma) and the unusual bond they both share with Harry’s man Friday, Matru (Imran Khan).
The movie also stars Arya Babbar, who plays Anushka Sharma’s finance Baadal, the son of a powerful politician Chaudhari Devi played by Shabana Azmi.
The movie is set to release on January 11, 2013.
