Director Rajkumar Gupta, who is working with Vidya Balan for the second time in ‘Ghanchakkar’, said that he wouldn’t have made the movie if Vidya Balan hadn’t accepted to play the female lead.
“Vidya is someone who will not agree for a film till she is convinced. She is someone who has her own say as to what movies she would like to do,” said Rajkumar Gupta to PTI.
“It is not easy to convince her. I think in case of ‘Ghanchakkar’ she was convinced with the script and her role. She saw some potential in me and the film,” he added.
‘Ghanchakkar’ is a comedy movie in which Vidya Balan plays a Punjabi housewife. Vidya Balan’s ‘The Dirty Picture’ co-star Emraan Hashmi plays Vidya Balan’s husband and an ex-conman.
“It is a quirky... comedy film. It is not a slapstick comedy. We are happy to have on board Vidya and Emraan. It was great working with them,” said the director.
The shooting of the movie was recently wrapped up and the director, who has previously made critically acclaimed movies ‘Aamir’ and ‘No One Killed Jessica’, is happy with the way his third movie has come out.
“We all gave our best, worked hard on the project. I think we have achieved what we had set out. Rest is for the audience to decide,” he concluded.
‘Ghanchakkar’ is produced by Vidya's husband Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV.
The movie will release on June 21.
