Shah Rukh Khan’s good friend Priyanka Chopra has come out in support of Shah Rukh Khan and his article on being a Muslim in Outlook Turning Points magazine.
The actress admitted that she doesn’t know much about the controversy but knows that people often use celebrities to "advance their propagandas".
“I believe that people often use celebrities to advance their propagandas. Celebrities have become a soft target nowadays,” said Priyanka Chopra to IANS, while unveiling the video of her single ‘In My City’.
Shah Rukh Khan recently wrote an article about being a Muslim in Outlook Turning Points magazine, published in association with The New York Times newspaper. This article received strong reactions from many quarters. Jamaat-ud Dawa chief, Hafiz Saeed, suggested that Shah Rukh Khan moves to Pakistan where he will be safer. Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik said India should provide security to Shah Rukh.
Priyanka Chopra, who has co-starred with Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Don’ and ‘Don 2’, said that media should handle such topics with care.
“The press should not get trapped in all this and must report the truth," she said.
Asked if she would have got involved with more controversies if her surname would have been 'Khan', she said: "I get into controversies with 'Chopra' too. A big deal is being made out of nothing. You should be ashamed to even ask such a question in a country as secular as India."
