Actor Ranbir Kapoor will turn a producer with Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious project ‘Bombay Velvet’.
Ranbir Kapoor who for a while has been contemplating about venturing into the field of film production has finally taken the leap and will co-produce ‘Bombay Velvet’ alongside Phantom Productions.
When contacted by a popular daily, Ranbir Kapoor confirmed the news and said that he couldn’t have asked for a better project to mark his career as a producer.
“Innovative content excites me and I believe the Phantom team is a pioneer at it. This seems to be the perfect time in my career to take up bigger ownership of a film and be a producer,” said Ranbir Kapoor.
Initially Ranbir Kapoor wasn’t a part of the production team as the actor hadn’t yet given his approval for the project. But once Ranbir Kapoor signed on as the lead of the movie, he started taking keen interest in the movie and gave valuable inputs in improving the movie.
“As a team we realized his inputs to the script are much more than an actor's. He looks at the bigger picture, the scope of the film beyond his role. And that is when it occurred to us that it would be great to have him play a part in the production as well,” said Vikas Bahl, from Phantom Productions.
Currently Anurag Kashyap is having several meetings with film's presenters Viacom 18 to facilitate Ranbir Kapoor in the production team.
‘Bombay Velvet’ is based on historian Gyan Prakash's Mumbai Fables, is the story of how the city became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and jazz music.
The film is a part of a trilogy that aims at recreating Bombay of the 50s, 60s and 70s and is being made at a whooping budget of Rs. 95 Crores.
The movie stars Anushka Sharma as the female lead.
