According to sources, the third movie of ‘Don’ franchise, starring Shah Rukh Khan as an international kingpin, might very well be underway.
Sources informed a daily that Farhan Akhtar, who directed and produced the first two movies, along with his business partner Ritesh Sidhwani have been seen visiting Shah Rukh Khan's Bandra mansion ‘Mannat’ several times over the last two weeks.
The sources further added that that the trio have been spending a lot of time together and it could well be to plan the next ‘Don’ film.
“There is definitely something brewing between the three. They have been together for long hours. Given that Farhan's biopic will release in May and his next film with Vidya is yet to take off, he has time on hand. And even SRK has been looking for a new project,” said a source to Mid-Day.
‘Don’, a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s classic movie ‘Don’, was released in 2006. The movie was directed by Farhan Akhtar and was produced by him along with Ritesh Sidhwani. The movie featured Shah Rukh Khan in a role essayed by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. It also starred Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Boman Irani and Ishaa Koppikar. The movie went on to become a huge success.
This was followed by a sequel ‘Don 2’ in 2011. The movie had Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani and Om Puri, reprising their roles from the previous film, with Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor playing new characters. Though the movie opened to mixed reviews the movie was blockbuster hit earning over 100 Crores at the box-office.
Recently Farhan Akhtar had said that he was interested to take the story of ‘Don’ forward but he dint want to restrict himself to just ‘Don’ series and wants to explore other genres and stories.
“As a filmmaker, I would want to explore other genres too and not get restricted to one. In my interview, I had actually said that at this point of time, I am not ready to take the story forward. I don't want to get into it as of now, but I never denied the possibility of it. I am very fascinated by Don as character, and I would love to take it to the next level, but only when I have a good script,” the director had said.
