Director Ayan Mukerji brought ex-lovers Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone together in his upcoming movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’.
The director commended the work ethic of the actors and stated that there was no awkwardness between the actors.
“Their dating earlier was not a big deal, they were a couple, and there were a lot of controversies later like the Koffee with Karan episode. But today there is nothing like that... they are now good friends and co-stars,” said Ayan Mukerji to PTI.
“They are very comfortable with each other,” he added.
Deepika Padukone’s line ‘Mujhe Tumse Pyar Ho Jayega... Phir Se?’ to Ranbir Kapoor in the promo has become one the most talked about aspect of the movie.
“A lot has been said about Deepika’s line in the promo. There is excitement among the audience and I am happy about it. It was part of the story when I wrote that line. It comes as a natural part of the scene. There are many points in the film where people will feel they would have been good together,” he said.
The movie has been in news every since its inception thanks to the casting coup. But director Ayan Mukerji said that Ranbir and Deepika were cast because they fitted the roles perfectly.
“A lot has been said about their coming together, during the casting process none of that was in our mind. We were trying to find the right actors for the roles,” he said.
“We took time as we wanted to be 100 per cent sure about the casting. I feel both were right choices and I am happy they agreed to do the film,” he added.
‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is Ayan Mukerji’s second movie after the much acclaimed movie ‘Wake up Sid’ way back in 2009.
“I needed time to make this film as I wanted to do it correctly. At many levels I think understanding of what I wanted to make was required, writing it correctly and then presenting it. Creativity does not cater to timelines,” he said.
“I think I have been able to express myself much more, there is openness with ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’,” he concluded.
Produced by Karan Johar the movie also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin.
The movie will release on May 31.
