Media has been buzzing with the news that actor Rishi Kapoor will play the role of Dawood Ibrahim in Nikhil Advani’s upcoming movie ‘D-Day’.
But the movie’s director Nikhil Advani denied the reports.
“I completely deny that Rishiji is playing Dawood. He plays an exiled crime lord named Iqbal. If there are similarities to Dawood, it can't be helped. All art basically needs to borrow from real-life headlines. It doesn't mean we are making a feature film on any specific person," said Nikhil Advani to IANS.
It’s also being rumored that the director summoned his cast to redub a few controversial lines after Rishi Kapoor gave an interview in a daily and the daily claimed that the actor admitted to playing the role of Dagwood Ibrahim.
The interview triggered a panic attack among the film's team that is now frantically trying to complete the post-production while avoiding trouble from crime syndicates.
But Nikhil Advani denied even these reports and said that Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Irrfan, were summoned redub the dialogues because few dialogues were drowned in the action.
“The film is in live sync-sound. We have to dub some of the lines because the dialogues were drowned in action. That's all,” the director said.
The director is furious that Rishi Kapoor’s character and its resemblance has become a major topic in the media.
“Why is so much being made out of one character's resemblance to someone we all know? I'm being asked how a director of such emotional films as ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ and ‘Patiala House’ can handle an action film,” he asked.
“But there is so much more to D-Day than the action involving the extrication of a wanted criminal from Karachi. The drama and emotions is the mainstay, not just the action scenes,” Nikhil Advani concluded.
The movie ‘D-Day’ is said to be an authentic, gutsy, raw and edgy thriller about 2 RAW agents, played by Irrfan Khan and Arjun Rampal, who are sent to Pakistan to bring Rishi Kapoor, who plays a Don, back by road to be tried by the Indian government.
Apart from Irrfan Khan, Arjun Rampal and Rishi Kapoor, the movie also stars Chandan Roy Sanyal as the don's psychotic nephew, Huma Qureshi and Shruti Haasan.
The movie will release on July 19th.
