Choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva’s first romantic comedy ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, starring new stars, has managed to surpass the multi-starrer ‘D-Day’ at the box-office.
‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ stars Shruti Haasan, daughter of veteran actor Kamal Haasan, and debutant Girish Taurani, son of producer Kumar Taurani, while Nikhil Advani’s ‘D-Day’ boasts of a star cast like Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Irrfan and Huma Qureshi. But it seems it did not materialize at the box office collections.
“#RamaiyaVastavaiya collected approx Rs 15.30 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 4.10 cr, Sat 4.70 cr, Sun *est* 6.50 cr,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
“#DDay collected approx Rs 13.69 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 2.94 cr, Sat 4.75 cr, Sun *est* 6 cr,” he added.
‘D-Day’ managed to collect only Rs 2. 50 crore while 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' earned Rs 3.50 crore on the opening day. But later, the business picked up for both the films.
“After a slow start, #DDay has picked up across multiplexes in evening/night shows. Word of mouth is super-strong!” posted Taran Adarsh.
‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ is a remake of Telugu movie ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’ also directed by Prabhu Deva.
Both ‘D-Day’ and ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’ both released on July 19.
