Biopics seem to be the current norm in Bollywood. After movies on athletes Milkha Singh and Mary Kom, a new movie on life of wrestler turned actor Dara Singh is in offing.
The project is to be helmed by writer-director Rohit Jugraj. Actor Akshay Kumar will essay the role of Dara Singh.
Dara Singh son’s Vindoo Singh confirmed that Rohit Jugraj approached him with the project.
“Yes, Rohit Jugraj has approached me to make a film on my father's life. Akshay Kumar is the one chosen to play my father in this project. However, Akshay would need time to bulk up," he said.
Vindoo, who had been in news after being accused in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scam and was even in jail for 13 days, added: "All these things happened and I didn't want to embarrass Akshay by connecting with him on this at a time when the media was hounding me."
Interestingly a Punjabi filmmaker too is keen on making a biopic of Dara Singh in Punjabi.
“Yes I've been approached by the producers of ‘Jatt & Juliet’ with a Punjabi film where they want Sangram Singh to play my dad. Let's see which one materializes first," said Vindoo.
The Hindi project is said to take off soon and further details of project will be released soon.
