Following the suit of Maharashtra, Delhi, Goa and Madhya Pradesh, government of Haryana too has granted Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ tax exemption.
‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, based on the life of legendary athlete Milkha Singh, got the approval from chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to make it tax free.
“There was a sole reason behind getting the film tax free - I want this film to reach every nook and corner of the country. This film is a family watch and is made to inspire the youth," said Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra to IANS.
“I do not want people to wait for it to come on to cable television and then be able to view it, but instead fit into the monthly budget of every household so that they can get the complete experience of the legend's life journey, hardships and achievements in the theatre," he added.
Previously Goa’s state finance ministry took the decision to exempt the movie from taxes because they felt that the movie would inspire today’s youth.
“The movie is inspiring for everyone. It is about one of our greatest athletes and how he conquered odds. We want people, especially youngsters to see it," a senior official said.
‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, stars Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh. Sonam Kapoor plays the female lead. Prakash Raj and Divya Dutta play important roles in the movie.
The movie that released on July 12 has been lauded by both audience and critics alike. The movie is still going strong at the box-office throughout India.
