Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project ‘Ram Leela’, starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, is all set to release on November 15. It was recently announced that Kangna Ranaut’s upcoming movie ‘Rajjo’ too is scheduled to release on same day.
Actress Kangna Ranaut is unfazed about her movie competing with ‘Ram Leela’ at the box-office. In fact the actress is pretty confident that her movie will do well at the box-office and is happy that the movie is releasing during the festive season.
“‘Rajjo’ is really close to my heart and I am glad it is being released this festive season. As for competition with other films, there would be one every week in any case. I am sure my producers are taking a good call and it comes from the trust and confidence they have in the product,” said Kangna Ranaut to IANS.
‘Rajjo’ is directed by debutant director Vishwas Patil.
The movie that doesn’t boost major star cast will see Kangna Ranaut as a mujrewaali. The film is said to be about the plight of nautch girls in modern times and the gradual demise of the kotha culture. It also has a subtext love story between Rajjo, a Muslim girl, and a Hindu boy.
While this news of a small budget movie releasing with one of the anticipated movie ‘Ram Leela’ has taken many by surprise, director Vishwas Patil believes that this is the best time for his movie to release.
“I was waiting for an apt time to bring the film. Even though the main character Kangna (or Rajjo) plays a mujrawali in the film, it isn't sombre or depressing by any means,” he said.
The movie also stars Mahesh Manjrekar and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles while Paras Arora makes his debut opposite Kangna as her lover. Veteran composer Uttam Singh returns to Bollywood with the soundtrack of this film.
It remains to be seen if this small budget movie will manage to put a dent in ‘Ram Leela’s’ box-office collections.
