Legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika passes away

The legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika died of multiple organ failure at a Mumbai hospital, leaving millions of his fans across India devastated.

Bhupen Hazarika was admitted to Hospital 4 months ago when he complained of breathing problems. He was on ventilator and dialysis as both his kidneys failed. Today he died at 4:37 PM in at Kokilaben Hospital, Hospital. He was 85.

The health of the maestro, who won Dadasaheb Phalke Award, deteriorated on October 23 after he developed pneumonia. He had to undergo a minor surgery in which doctors inserted a food pipe into his system.

"It was a multi-organ failure. The end came around 4.30 pm," said Jayanta Narayan Saha, in-charge of media relations at the hospital.

His body will be flown to Guwahati on Monday and kept at Judges Field for two days for the public to pay homage.

Dr. Hazarika made his debut in as a child artist in the film ‘Indramalti’ singing ‘Biswha Bijoy Noi Jawan’.

He is known for his lyrical voice and his songs especially ‘Dil hoom hoom kare’ and ‘Gangabehti ho kyon’, will live on forever.
