In times when Bollywood is intent on making remakes of movies from down south, how could they have left behind a movie like ‘Magadheera’, which went on to become the highest grosser in Tollywood?

So now this historical romantic drama will be remade in Hindi by Anurag Kashyap and Vikas Bahl's production company Phantom.

They have signed in Ranveer Singh of ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ fame to play the main lead in the movie, which was essayed by Ram Charan Teja, Chiranjeevi’s son, in the original.

It was previously reported that Ranbir Kapoor or Hrithik Roshan might play the lead character but the role finally went to Ranveer Singh, who is working with the production house in their movie ‘Lootera’.

“Magadheera' is a passion project for us at Phantom and we are so excited to have the rights to recreate this magical piece of work. Ranveer is the best thing that could have happened to it. He has all the ingredients to be a passionate lover, a warrior and an entertainer all at the same time,” said Vikas Bahl to a daily.

The project is supposedly being made on a whooping budget of Rs. 50 crores.

The lead actress and the director to helm the project are yet to be finalised. The movie will go on floors later this year.
