While everyone seems to have an opinion on the remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s cult classic movie ‘Zanjeer’, Amitabh Bachchan himself doesn’t seem to have any qualms over it. Infact the veteran actor recently said that he takes the remake as a compliment.
The remake had initially faced problems with the writer Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan, who co-wrote the original, opposing the remake. Recently though, the problem was sorted out and the writers finally gave their nod.
The movie is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and stars Ram Charan Teja, a Tollywood hero and son of Tollywood superstar Chiranjeevi. Both the director and actor have time and again expressed their desire to meet the legendary actor. Recently, Amitabh Bachchan met them both.
“While on set I learnt that 'Zanjeer' the II was being shot on an adjoining floor and that Charan the hero and its maker Apoorva Lakhia wanted to visit me. Charan is a very successful star in his own right in Telugu cinema; he is the son of superstar Chiranjeevi, a dear friend. I met them and wished them well. The producer is Prakash Mehra's son Amit... The rights belong to Mehra and they have the right to make or remake what they like. I cannot have a say in it,” wrote Amitabh Bachchan on his blog.
The actor said that it was Amit Mehra’s, the producer of ‘Zanjeer’ remake and son of Prakash Mehra, who directed and produced the original ‘Zanjeer’, right to make the remake and he as an artist had no say in it.
“I worked as an artist in the film and got my remuneration for it. Over! Seeking my opinion would be incorrect... For this I can only give my very best wishes. I do hope they will make a successful film. It is a compliment to the film being remade – it was worthy of remaking when you had a hand in making the original. How many films do carry the benefit of a remake, is what needs to be appreciated also,” he wrote.
Along with Ram Charan, the movie also stars Priyanka Chopra, Prakash Raj, Arjun Rampal and Mahie Gill.
