On Friday veteran actress Hema Malini’s eldest daughter Esha Deol got married to businessman Bharat Takhtani. Hema Malini, who is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party, invited PM of our country Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to the wedding but they couldn’t make it due to security issues.
“We had invited PM and Sonia Gandhi for the wedding. They couldn't come for security reasons. If it would have been in Delhi, they would have made it. It's a sweet gesture from Sonia Gandhi that she has sent Esha and Bharat an invite that whenever they are in Delhi, they should go to her place for lunch or dinner,” said the actress to IANS.
Esha Deol tied knot with Bharat in a traditional south Indian wedding at Iskcon Temple in Juhu on Friday. The guest list included Amitabh Bachchan, son Abhishek, Rani Mukerji, Manoj Kumar, Vyjayanthimala, Vinod Khanna, Ramesh Sippy, Fardeen Khan, Poonam Sinha, Madhoo, Anu Malik, designer Neeta Lulla and her daughter Nishka.
It also included big wigs of BJP from Raj Purohit, Mumbai chief of the BJP, to party president Nitin Gadkari to national vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. The reception held on Saturday included the likes of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray attending.
The actress was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009.
