Veteran actor Dara Singh passes away

It’s with very heavy hearts we inform you that actor and wrestler Dara Singh passed away early this morning. He was 84.

The veteran, who suffered from severe brain hemorrhage, breathed his last at 7.30 am at his Mumbai residence, in presence of his family and friends.

The demise of Dara Singh was made public by his son Vidhu Dara Singh, who also informed that the last rites for the actor would be held at 2 PM today.

Dara Singh was rushed to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Saturday after he suffered from cardiac arrest. The actor was put on ventilator and underwent dialysis but the actor’s condition failed to improve and later he suffered severe brain hemorrhage.

“Yesterday, we brought him from hospital to home…his wish was that he be at his home between his family. He passed away at 7.30 am due to cardio-respiratory arrest, he had suffered paralysis a few years back, and he also had a very rare brain disease,” said Dara Singh personal physician Dr Agarwal.

He added that the ventilator and other support systems were removed only after his death.

The actor, who rose to fame with portrayal of Hanuman in ‘Ramayan’, has been part of many movies like Watan Se Door, Rustom-E-Baghdad, Sher Dil, Sikandar E Azam, Raaka, Mera Naam Joker, Dharam Karam and Mard. His last movie was ‘Jab We Met’, where he played Kareena Kapoor’s Grandfather.

Dara Singh also won the title of Rustam-e-Hind for his wrestling prowess.
