Shah Rukh Khan finds allegations against YRF by Ajay Devgn 'silly'

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan said that he finds the current controversy surrounding his movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar’ ‘very silly’.

Ajay Devgn’s production house Ajay Devgn Films (ADF) recently filed a legal complaint against Yash Raj Films at Competition Commission Of India (CCI) claiming that the production house was using their influence in the industry and was manipulating the exhibitors and distributors to release ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ in more screens than ‘Son of Sardaar’.

“Instead of being disheartened, it is silly, it is not just right. I don't know how it gets resolved. Is someone going to tell me not to release my film on Friday,” said Shah Rukh Khan to Indian Express.

“I don't understand it... I find it very strange rather than disheartening. What is the meaning of all this? The film is coming out; let's pray for each other's film. I think both the movies will do well,” he added.

The news that Ajay Devgn has sent YRF a legal notice broke out a few days after the demise of Yash Chopra. But Ajay Devgn claims that he had sent the notice long before the legendary filmmaker’s death.

In his allegations Ajay Devgn claimed that YRF 'arm twisted' exhibitors to dedicate more screens to ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ than ‘Son of Sardaar’. Both movies are scheduled to release on Diwali November 13.

Shah Rukh Khan said that he fails to see logic behind these allegations.

“What are we trying to show by all this... It is amusing. I don't understand the logic of all this,” he said.

“My logic is if you are worried that you have less number of theatres then you should have booked it earlier. Because your business house has not done it and the other has done it why are you holding that against us, why is there an issue?” he stated.

“If you have an option then you can come like this Friday, it is completely for you to choose. Either do it one week before or after but if you have decided to do it together then release it,” he added.

The actor said that it was up to distributors to select the movie that they want to showcase.

“I think the onus lies on the buyers. It is a free market, not controlled or monopolistic or even a restrained competitive market. Our logic is consumer is the king; they want to see the film. The exhibitors represent the consumers and they have decided to take our film in x amount of theatres,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Competition Commission recently dismissed the complaint against YRF by Ajay Devgn stating that plea made by them holds no merit.

‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma is the last directorial movie by late Yash Chopra. The anticipation surrounding the movie, which already one most eagerly awaited movie of the year, increased after Yash Chopra demise last month.

The movie ‘Son of Sardaar’ stars Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla in lead roles. The movie is a remake of Telugu movie ‘Maryada Ramanna’.

Both movies will release on November 13.
