Ali Abbas Zafar’s upcoming movie ‘Gunday’ will go on floors from December 7th this year. Though major part of the movie will be shot in Kolkata, the director revealed that the Howrah streets will be created in Mumbai itself.

“My film ‘Gunday’ will go on the floors from December 7. Since it's a period film, we are working too much on the pre-production. Major portions will be shot in Kolkata but we are creating the streets of Howrah in Mumbai and it will take some time,” said Zafar to IANS.

“The set will not be created in any studios, it will be shot outdoors to make it look authentic,” he added.

Ali Abbas Zafar’s debut movie ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’, starring Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif and Ali Zafar, was a light romantic comedy. But the director said that ‘Gunday’ will be nothing like his debut movie.

“This is a different kind of a film. It's a more mature romance and it also has action and drama. I am planning to release the film in the winters of 2013,” he said.

Recently Priyanka Chopra was finalized as the female lead for the movie, while Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor will be playing the male leads. All the actors will be essaying Bengali characters in the movie.

“She will look authentic and justify her character as a Bengali girl. All the three characters will be seen as Bengali in the film,” the director said.

“There will be some surprise as well. There will be some special appearances in the film by regional actors,” he added.

‘Gunday’ is set in the era of 1970’s, the most turbulent times in Kolkata. Ranveer and Arjun will be seen as powerful black marketing mafia. They play Bikram and Bala respectively. The film traces the journey of these two small time wagon breakers and coal thieves who become mafia leaders.
