Teary Waheeda Rehman unveils Dev Anand's statue

Yesteryear actress Waheeda Rehman, who recently unveiled the brass statue of legendary actor Dev Anand, was in tears during the event and said that the actor will always be alive in people’s heart.

“He is not here with us today and I am unveiling his statue. His name will always be remembered in the film industry forever. He will be alive in the people's heart," said Waheeda while unveiling the statue on the occasion of Dev Anand's first death anniversary.

The statue was unveiled at the Bandra Bandstand Promenade here as part of UTV Stars' property Walk of the Stars.

Waheeda Rehman made her debut opposite Dev Anand in ‘C.I.D’. The actress then went on to work in seven more films with the actor including memorable movies like ‘Guide’, ‘Prem Pujari’, ‘Kala Bazar’ and ‘Baat Ek Raat Ki’.

Waheeda Rehman said that though Dev Anand saab was a superstar by the time she worked with him in ‘C.I.D’ he never made her feel uncomfortable.

“When I did my first film with him, he was a star but he never made me realize (I was a newcomer) because he was so cooperative and friendly,” said the actress, whose movie ‘Guide’ with Dev Anand remains one of the best Bollywood movies till date.

“One thing I noticed about Dev saheb was that he was modern yet simple at heart. He never had stylish cars, never had a huge birthday bash and no show offs,” the actress concluded.

Dev Anand’s son Suneil Anand, who was also present at the event, thanked UTV stars for their gesture.

“I am touched that my legendary farther Dev Anand is being honored. Thanks a lot,” he said.

Dev Anand, who made his debut with 1946 film 'Hum Ek Hain’, went on to act in classic Bollywood movie’s like 'Baazi', 'Paying Guest', 'Guide', 'Jewel Thief' and 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna'. The actor earned the title of ‘evergreen hero’ for his performances.

The legendary actor passed away last year in London after he suffered from cardiac arrest.
