According to a source, the Censor Board decided to award the movie a ‘U’ certificate because of the strong message the movie carries.
“The censor board wanted the movie to reach to the masses and go as wide as possible due to the very strong and powerful message it delivers and hence gave it a U-rating," a source close to the team told IANS.
The movie receiving an ‘U’ certificate has also pleased its producer Siddharth Roy Kapur.
“We commend the censor board for its progressive stance in passing Kai Po Che! with a U-certification. It bodes well for the new generation of filmmakers and studios that we have the active support and encouragement of the censor board to continue to create cinema that pushes the boundaries. Their spontaneous and effusive reaction to the film was very motivating for all of us associated with it," said Siddharth Roy Kapoor.
The movie will release on February 22.
