According to recent report in HT, actress Vidya Balan is all set to play Carnatic classical singer MS Subbulakshmi in filmmaker Rajiv Menon’s upcoming film.

“Vidya has almost wrapped up Raj Kumar Gupta’s ‘Ghanchakkar’ with Emraan Hashmi. Post that, she will work on ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’ with Farhan Akhtar and is likely to start either Sujoy Ghosh’s next or the biopic,” said sources to HT.

Rajiv Menon, who is known for his movies Minsara Kanavu (Sapnay in Hindi) and Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000), is currently busy meeting with various financers as he plans on making a biopic as a lavish musical.

Vidya Balan confirmed that she will be working on a biopic but refused to divulge more information on the topic.

“I can’t reveal much as I’m bound by contract. All I can say is that I’m doing a biopic. When the time is right, the makers will make the necessary announcement,” said Vidya Balan.

Bollywood seems to have acquired a taste for biopics recently as five other biopics are currently underway.

Currently Farhan Akhtar is busy shooting for the movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, a biopic on life of Milkha Singh. The movie is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and stars Sonam Kapoor as the female lead.

Priyanka Chopra too is busy with a biopic on life of Olympic medalist Mary Kom. The movie is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and directed by debutant director Omung Kumar.

A biopic on life of legendary singer Kishore Kumar is being penned by Anurag Basu, who will also direct the movie. Ranbir Kapoor will portray the role of Kishore Kumar in this biopic.

Shah Rukh Khan is currently in talks to play legendary hockey star Dhyan Chand in a biopic directed by debutant director Rohit Vaid. Ila Bedi Dutta, who wrote Agneepath (2012), is penning the biopic

Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia is planning on making a movie on life of Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution.
