Director Rajkumar Hirani, who helmed the first two movie in the ‘Munnabhai’ series - ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ and ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, wont be directing the third movie of the franchise.
According to sources, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has signed director Subhash Kapoor, of ‘Phas Gaya Re Obama’ and ‘Jolly LLB’ fame, to step into Rajkumar Hirani’s shoes.
Apparently Vidhu Vinod Chopra, along with Rajkumar Hirani, decided to sign Subhash Kapoor to direct the third movie as they felt that Subhash Kapoor’s sensibilities matched with theirs.
“The third installment is one of the biggest and the most awaited films today. Hirani was involved in the process of finding a replacement director. Vinod, Raju and writer Abhijat Joshi saw ‘Jolly LLB’ in a special screening and liked the film very much. They felt that Subhash's sensibility matched what they were looking for,” said a source to Mid-Day.
Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra confirmed the news.
“After a long search, we found an individual with the right sensibility and approach to work with us,” said Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
After the immense success of the second movie 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', third movie installment from the franchise was announced and was titled ‘Munnabhai Chale America’. Even a few promotional pictures were also released. But the movie never happened.
Recently, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the producer of first two movies, had confirmed that there will be 3rd Munnabhai movie and it will be called ‘Munna Bhai Ki Aatma Katha’.
Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi will reprise their roles as Munna and Circuit in the third movie.
