Anurag Basu acquires the rights of popular TV show 'Prison Break'

Director Anurag Basu, who started his career as a director with TV show ‘Tara’, has acquired the rights of widely popular and acclaimed American Television show ‘Prison Break’.

According to sources Brett Ratner, executive producer of the American series, who also directed its pilot episode, was instrumental in facilitating the deal. Brett Ratner was also Anurag Basu's editor for the international version of his 2010 film ‘Kites’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori in lead roles.

The deal was signed few months and the pre-production works on the show have already begun.

Anurag Basu won’t just be acting as a co-producer of the show but will also be its creative director. The show is scheduled to air on a very popular Television channel.

But further details of the show have been kept under wraps.

‘Prison Break’ tells a story of two brothers, one of whom has been sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit even as the other hatches an elaborate plan to help his sibling escape the gallows.

The show was hugely successful and was nominated for many awards including 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Drama. The show won People's Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama in 2006.

The show was concluded after very successful 4 seasons and 81 episodes.
