Filmmaker Karan Johar is all set to co-produce a Hindi remake of Tamil superhit movie ‘Vettai’.

“I was very impressed with ‘Vettai’ when I watched it, but I didn't know UTV was involved in it. I have now partnered with them for the Hindi remake. We will soon announce the name of a young actor, who will fill the slot of a true-blue action star," filmmaker Karan Johar said in a statement today.

‘Vettai’ is a 2012 Tamil action film directed by N Linguswamy. The original film starred Arya, R Madhavan, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul in lead roles.

The movie revolves around two brothers -- the elder being sensitive to violence and the younger being a jobless rogue. After the death of their father, a police officer, the elder brother takes on the same job.

“The film will have a lot of heroism, humor and great scope for music. It's going to be a commercial potboiler and one of the few films with a pan-India appeal," Karan Johar said.

The Hindi remake of ‘Vettai’ has been in news ever since the movie achieved a huge success down south. Previously it was rumored that Shah Rukh Khan and Imran Khan would play brothers in the movie. Later it was reported that Shahid Kapoor has been cast as one of the brother. But few days’ later reports emerged that Shahid Kapoor walked out of the movie as he wasn’t satisfied with the final script. Currently it’s said that Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham will play the central roles. Earlier it was said that Linguswamy himself would direct the film but now it’s said that director duo Abbas-Mustan will helm the movie.

“We are in discussion with a couple of directors and actors. Things should be finalized sooner rather than later,” Karan Johar concluded.
