The star studded premier of Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ scheduled to take place today was cancelled at the last minute.

The premier that was supposed to be attended by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and members of his family got cancelled, said an official from a multiplex, where the premier was scheduled to happen.

The person refused to divulge further information.

The sources though claim that the decision was taken due to the Chief Minister and the government getting flake from media and public after the much criticized Bollywood Night at the Saifai Mahotsava.

The sources added that negative publicity following the performance of Madhuri at Saifai forced the state government to cancel the film's premiere.

The Saifai glitz has invited sharp rebuke from the media and opposition parties as they accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) government of being insensitive to the plight of the riot survivors of Muzaffarnagar and busying itself in merry making.

The sources also said that the team of the film, along with director Abhishek Chaubey and other star cast were informed of the cancellation of the programme when they were about to board a flight at Mumbai for Lucknow. The red-faced crew aborted the flight and cancelled their travel plans thereafter.

‘Dedh Ishqiya’ is a sequel to 2010 super hit movie ‘Ishqiya’, which starred Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah.

‘Dedh Ishqiya’ is a romantic saga of individuals who are caught amidst love, compassion and deceit. The movie will see Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah move from Gorakhpur (where ‘Ishqiya’ was set) to Lucknow and meet a highly cultured Muslim family that includes Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi.

The movie released today to rave reviews.
