Actress Alia Bhatt, who plays the female lead in the movie adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘2 States’, said that she read and admired the book even before the movie adaptation was announced.

“I had read ‘2 States’ even before the book was getting made into a film. It's a beautiful book,” said Alia Bhatt to IANS.

‘Two States’ is a love story of a Punjabi boy who falls in love with a Tamil girl and the film revolves around the cultural clash they and their families encounter.

Arjun Kapoor plays the Punjabi boy while Alia Bhatt portrays a Tamilian Brahmin.

“I am playing a Tamilian girl. I learnt Tamil for the film. It was not easy talking in Tamil even though she only speaks the south Indian language with her father and mother in the film," said Alia Bhatt.

The movie is directed by Sreerag Nambiar and produced by Karan Johar.

‘Two States’ will release on April 18.
