Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan passes away

Pakistani legend and Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan passed away Yesterday due to multiple organ failure. He was 84.

The maestro had been struggling with this life for over a decade now and was undergoing various treatments for lung, chest and urinary tract ailments in several different hospitals in Pakistan.

The death of Mehdi Hassan, who was very popular in India, came as a blow to Bollywood and many of his fans.

Veteran Singer Lata Mangeshkar, who did a rare collaboration with him for an album song, said that Hassan Saab was an outstanding singer.

“It is a very sad news. I am really upset ever since I heard this news. Not only me, the entire world loved his songs. There is no doubt about it that he was an outstanding singer,” she said to IANS.

“I have shared a very good relationship with him. I really respect him a lot and even he used to respect me a lot. I have met him just two to three times, he was a wonderful human being,” she added.

Salman Khan to play a superhero in Sher Khan?

If the rumors are to believed then Bollywood is all set to have a brand new superhero in Salman Khan.

In the movie ‘Sher Khan’, to be directed by Salman Khan’s brother Sohail Khan, Salman Khan is all set to a play a superhero, whose powers lie in his shoulder length hair. This will be a first Pathan superhero.

Earlier the movie was supposed to be an action flick to Salman Khan’s hit movies ‘Dabangg’, ‘Bodyguard’ but recently it was decided that this will be Salman Khan’s first movie for the kids.

“Kona Venkatesh who wrote Salman's ‘Ready’ was summoned to do the screenplay for the film. Now, Sohail and Salman have changed their mind. They roped in Rumi Jaffery to write an action film for the kids instead,” a source revealed to Mumbai Mirror.

Ranbir Kapoor, Vidya Balan and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara win top honors at IIFA

Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor and Vidya Balan continued their winning streak by grabbing the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards for the movies ‘Rockstar’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’ respectively at the recently held IIFA in Singapore.

Vidya Balan, who received her award from veteran actor Kamal Hassan, said that she was honored to receive the award from hands of her idol.

“To get the award from such an actor whom I have worshipped all my life is an honor. Seven years ago my first film ‘Parineeta’ premiered at IIFA Amsterdam and today I am winning the best actress award here,” she said.

Ranbir Kapoor was excited on winning the Best Actor award.

“I am grateful to have got the opportunity to work with masterminds like Imtiaz Ali, AR Rahman and my grand uncle Shammi Kapoor in this film,” he said.

The movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, starring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin and directed by Zoya Akhtar, won the Best Movie award. Director Zoya Akhtar won Best Director award for the same, while Farhan Akhtar won Best Actor in Supporting Role.

'Teri Meri Kahaani' world premier to be held in Melbourne

Actress Priyanka Chopra along with her ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ co-star Shahid Kapoor flew down to Melbourne recently, not only to promote their movie but also to launch the 12 day long Indian Film Festival there.

This Film Festival follows the recently held International Indian Film Academy Awards at Singapore, where the world premier of Dibakar Banerjee’s ‘Shanghai’ took place.

According to actress Priyanka Chopra, the reason for the premiers of Indian movies being held outside India is that Indian movies are now being noticed worldwide.

“What we offer as Indian movies is color and culture and music and celebration and drama and love, and I think that's representative of our culture. I think Indian movies are going beyond just the shores of India or the South-Asian subcontinent - it's going all over the world,” said Priyanka Chopra during a press conference in Melbourne.

Actor Shahid Kapoor feels that Indian Films standout from others because our movies are quite different from other movies.

“I think what's beautiful about our films is that they're different from the kind of films that people get to see otherwise, and I think that's why we kind of stand out,” he said.

The director of the Film Festival, Mitu Bhowmick Lange, revealed that during this 12 day event 40 movies will be screened and this will also include the premier of ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’.

“It's just about bringing these two worlds as close as possible and being this really good, fun, cultural bridge between the two countries,” he said.

Directed by Kunal Kohli the movie will be releasing on June 22, 2012.

After mesmerizing the audience and setting the box-office rolling with his movie ‘Kahaani’, director Sujoy Ghosh has started working on his next project.

The director, who has become a household name thanks to ‘Kahaani’, got fed of being bombarded with questions on his next project and decided to announce the movie through Twitter.

“The script that i'm writing for sir is called BADLA, which, if i write well, will have sir and naseer ji & the balan. all depends on script,” he posted on his Twitter page.

There have been rumors that Sujoy’s next project is a sequel to ‘Kahaani’ but the director dismissed the claims.

'Rowdy Rathore' joins 100 Crore club

Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha’s starrer ‘Rowdy Rathore’ has entered the elite 100 crore today.

The movie directed by Prabhu Deva the action cop movie collected Rs. 22 Crores during the second weekend makings its grand collection of Rs. 101.5 Crores.

“Rowdy crosses 100 crore mark. Shanghai is below the mark,” posted Taran Adarsh on his Twitter account.

“RowdyRathore collected Rs 22 crore nett in weekend 2, taking the total to Rs 101.5 cr nett. Breakup:- Fri 5.1 cr, Sat 6.4 cr, Sun 10.5 cr +. Rowdy Rathore has crossed Rs 100 cr nett mark at the end of Weekend 2. Has performed exceptionally well at single screens as well as multiplexes,” he tweeted further.

The movie was Akshay Kumar’s biggest opening ever and collected Rs. 15.10 Crore on the opening day itself. By the end of its first week the movie ended up collecting Rs. 48 Crores.

Actor Sharman Joshi has been a part of many blockbuster hits like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Golmaal’ etc but his movie ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’ is his first movie as a main and solo lead.

The actor recently revealed that his aim was to be a part of 10 great films and according to him his next movie ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’ will be one of them.

“I am not here to prove anything to anyone except for myself. I want to be part of great cinema. I want to be part of minimum 10 great films in my career as an actor. I think 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari' is going to be one of those,” he said to IANS in an interview.

“I am here for the long run, not a short run - 30-40 years is the minimum you should expect out of me. Don't worry there is plenty more to see from me. You will possibly get tired of seeing me for the next 30-40 years,” he added.

The wedding will be a low key affair and will take place in temple midst of family and close friends.

'Heroine' to release on Kareena Kapoor's birthday

The release date of Kareena Kapoor’s eagerly awaited project ‘Heroine’ has been pushed back a week and the movie will now release on September 21, which also happens to be Kareena Kapoor’s birthday.

“We decided to make things special for her (Kareena) with a bit of a reshuffle,” said the director of the movie, Madhur Bhandarkar, to HT.

Kareena Kapoor is very excited with this new development.

“I would call it (Heroine) my best work till date. After Jab We Met (2007), I think I have really put my sweat and blood into this film. So what better birthday gift than it coming out on the same day?” she said.

With the date being pushed back a week, the movie will now clash with two more women-centric movies ‘English Vinglish’ and ‘Ishkq in Paris’.
